Okay, if you’re confused, I totally understand why. Heck, could be confused from two totally different directions, depending on whether or not you remember the old site. One way or another, there’s some explanations in order here.

If you’re a new reader and don’t understand why there’s a second Far Out There here with different comics than the main one, it’s because I’ve been doing EXTRA Far Out There comics for a long time now. First, I was doing bonus art and the occasional side story to go up on Top WebComics as Voting Incentives. Then, on top of that, I also started drawing MORE side comics to post on Patreon. Obviously, this stuff was all intended to become available to the general public eventually, and back when this comic was on SmackJeeves I had a second “comic” set up just to host those. Obviously, SmackJeeves ain’t around no more, so I’ve set up a subdomain of the new site to be the NEW home of all the extra comics!

Which brings us to the question all the long-time readers are asking: where ARE all those extra comics? There used to be a lot more than this! First of all, don’t worry, I didn’t lose anything when SmackJeeves went down. It’s all saved on my computer. There might be a few typos or art errors that aren’t fixed on these original copies, but other than that, the whole run is preserved. The thing is, there’s a LOT of this stuff. It already took me too long to re-post all the regular comics, it’d have taken even LONGER if I was also re-posting all this stuff at the same time. So now that the regular comic’s fully restored and we’re back to a regular update schedule, I can finally get started rebuilding THIS site. And sadly, it’ll take a little while longer before I get all that content back up.

Here’s the plan: I’m gonna do sort of what I’ve been doing with Conventional Wisdom so far, and post new content AND old content simultaneously. New material will come out on a semi-regular basis, with the newest comic on the front page. At the same time, though, chunks of OLD comics will also be re-posted and back-dated to appear “behind” the new stuff. Sadly, this means there’ll be an awkward gap between the oldest material and the new stuff, but the alternative is to have no new stuff at all until all the old stuff is archived. Trust me, this is the best of the bad options.

Oh, and if you’re wondering where the Author Commentary on all the TWC stuff went… well, sadly that actually DID get erased with the rest of SmackJeeves. The almighty Wayback Machine barely saved any of that stuff. I thought about writing more “Historical Notes” like I did with the main comics… but that’s part of the reason the re-posting took so long. I’m REALLY gonna make an effort to speed the process up this time, and that means no stopping to write a whole blog post for every page. Don’t worry, at least the Patreon stuff has survived, so you’ll still have SOME kind of wordage. (And yes, the desire to post things faster is also why I’m not going back to fix any typos you will no doubt find)

Oh, and lest we forget, you can always see the newest stuff RIGHT AWAY by voting on Top WebComics and becoming a patron!
