You know, I’d actually HAD toyed with the idea of Astrid’s Mom being married to one of Augusta’s brothers, but that felt like it’d make the Far Out There world just a little bit TOO small. Like, it’s already unlikely that this one person that our cast interacted with just HAPPENED to grow up as besties with the Mom of an entirely DIFFERENT character that they interacted with at an entirely separate instance… but a full family connection just tripped my “Oh, some on!” sensors a bit too hard. So instead, they just grew up down the street from each other in the same super-weathly neighborhood… which somehow DOESN’T register as a stretch in my brain.
See, that actually seems stranger to me, that they were in the same neighborhood, as I assumed Augusta’s parents owed their own planet. Unless by ‘same neighborhood’ that means they each owed a planet in the same planetary system. Next door neighbors would be the owners of Mars and Earth. Still, if the FoT superrich are anything like Earth’s superrich, they would tend to intermarry a lot, not wanting to mix their genes with the “commoners”, so that angle’s actually not as unlikely as it seems initially either.
The more common link probably would be to have them having attended the same ultraprestegious #1-in-the-universe private kindergarden or whatever. So pretty much all of the ultrarich kids of any generation would at least be acquainted with each other.
Totally stealing that use of “neighborhood” for future use 😀 …though I might say a bunch of moons orbiting a gas giant, just to have them “closer.” (You know, because otherwise this might start to sound absurd)
Shock revelation: Astrid is actually Layla’s first cousin!! 😮
