Layla’s Cosplay Quest – page 15
(Historical Notes: …of course, because I do get annoyed by people abusing THAT idea, I do also want to stress that I don’t like writers who rely too much on the whole “Whatever the audience imagines will be better than anything I write” maneuver. No, dude, you still have to actually tell the story you set out to tell. It’s not my job to do the hard work for you. However, I will concede that leaving it up to the audience is an acceptable last resort to avoid screwing things up. Like, if you absolutely KNOW you lack the skills to properly spell out what you want the audience to experience… then Get Gud before you try doing this crap. No, but seriously, it’s an acceptable alternative to openly face-planting in front of everyone, even if it’s not desirable and you shouldn’t make a policy of it. And that’s where we find ourselves here. As I’ve said WAY too many times, this sort of satire is really, really tricky and difficult to pull off, and I do think the odds of success are much higher when the author gives himself a handicap and leaves certain parts up to the audience’s imagination. And since I kind of suck at this, that’s the maneuver I really need to stick to more often.)
