It seems more sad to us because it feels like 15 years that she’s been estranged from her daughter…but to them it’s really probably less than 15 weeks (notwithstanding that they’ve celebrated over a dozen birthdays and Christmases – those happen far more often in the Future, what with each planet with a different year length insisting its calendar is the “right” one) … so, still sad, just not as much so.
I feel like it should be a case where Layla was forever forbidden from entering Pattie’s Office (unlikely), OR she redecorated shortly after Eric died and Layla never entered since then.
Probably the latter – Patty seems the sort of utterly practical person who saw no need to have photos around of people she was around all the time (and found it difficult to understand why other people did) – and it’s only when they were both no longer around that she realized the need for the photos. If Layla ever does return, then she’s forbidden from going to the office.
