(Historical Notes: I’m pretty sure I remember the original commentary for this one being that this was the first time we’d actually seen Layla’s cleavage… which isn’t even true. SO I can also give Past Me grief for THAT too.
But anyway, the key to my whole complaint here is this. By having the focus of Layla’s pushback be Tabitha, the one who’s making her wear all this stuff, the meta-textual implication is that she’s complaining to the one who’s REALLY putting her in these costumes: me. The broader implication is a jab at the kind of artists who would make a habit out of drawing their characters in ridiculous pictures like these just to get a quick pop out of the audience… EXCEPT THAT DOESN’T WORK IF I’M BEING ONE OF THOSE ARTISTS IN THE PROCESS. I’ve deliberately sabotaged my ability to actually SAY anything on the topic by willingly tossing myself in with the target, and that is just a PAINFUL lack of self-awareness to look back on.)
