(Historical Notes: Just another side rant before I get back to the MAIN rant, but the formatting really got away from me on this one. Having the two halves of the art overlapping like this really makes the whole thing feel too cramped and busy.  But on the other hand, I do like that this one stresses Layla’s carnivore tenancies at a time when it wasn’t really being mentioned much in the main comics.

Anyway, let’s get to the real moral of the story by revisiting those Layla/Astrid Incentive from earlier one last time.  I specifically drew attention to the one where Astrid is wearing Layla’s usual outfit but Layla refuses to wear an Astrid dress as an example of the best way to do this kind of joke.  Again, the “Show, don’t Tell” rule breaks down at this point, because the whole gag works a lot better if the comic is just planting the IDEA in the reader’s head, then making a joke about THAT, rather than explicitly depicting the idea…)
